The CERW Story
About Us
Center for Empowering the Rural Woman (CERW Ghana) is a grassroots nonprofit organization based in Tamale, in the Northern Region of Ghana. Founded in 2016, CERW was born out of a deep conviction that rural women are the backbone of our communities, yet they remain among the most economically and socially disadvantaged groups in society.
The organization was established by a group of passionate development practitioners and community advocates who witnessed first-hand how rural women struggled to access resources, land, education, and markets despite their vital contribution to food production and family welfare.
CERW emerged as a response to this imbalance. A movement to bridge the gap between the rural and urban woman, to give women in farming communities a voice, and to create pathways for economic independence and social inclusion.
Today, CERW continues to empower women to thrive as entrepreneurs, farmers, leaders, and agents of change in Northern, Upper West, Upper East, and North East Region of Ghana.
